She’s Off to Dallas!

Picture of paintings in Elena Sandovici’s art studio in Houston, with a painting a woman in blue looking at the ocean in center.

Something quite lovely happened today! A brand new collector who came across my work through a postcard in a Galveston store, drove down from Dallas to Houston to see and buy one of my favorite paintings from this summer: the one of the woman in the blue dress looking at the water at night, lights of ships shining in the distance. It really made me happy that someone loved one of my paintings this much, and it was a good reminder that I love doing the work I do. There have been a few of these lately!

Though true to form, there have also been some moments of doubt and darkness. I haven’t been blogging because life has been busy, but I have been painting (there are a whole bunch of new sea birds and iridescent oysters looking to claim the wall space freed by the woman in the blue dress), writing a bit, doing a book signing, and learning quite a lot about face paint because this Dia de Muertos I get to do the makeup of several ladies for a Latinas for the Arts event at the Grand Opera House. Let me tell you, mastering face painting techniques (and figuring out which paints work best) is not easy, but I have been making progress, and I will make sure the ladies end up very happy.

So, basically, all in all, life is good. The weather is finally lovely, I got to vote today, and I’ve been making new friends. Let’s make a mental note to revisit this particular moment next time things look rather dim.
