Thinking of Betty

Advertisements

Perhaps it’s the hint of jasmine that is now permeating the air that’s gotten me to think of Betty. Or maybe it’s the fact that I felt melancholic today – though perhaps that came from the jasmine too, or from the full moon, from lingering tiredness, from my perpetual sense of displacement – my constant anxiety that wherever I might be, I’m leaving important things on the other side of the world unattended.

In the afternoon I took a long walk and went to see the yellow crowned night herons. I counted four of them – though in this picture there are only three. I always feel better after seeing the herons, and I feel better after drawing too.
