Today I made a sizable painting of red velvet cake in honor of Juneteenth, which is tomorrow, and which, for the first time, I will get to celebrate right here on Galveston Island. I was reading some materials about it today and found that historically foods that are red in color, such as red velvet cake, have been associated with Juneteenth celebrations.
To be even more festive, I strung up fairy lights in my hundred-year-old tree. It was not that easy. The tree’s bark is very coarse, it felt like putting a dainty dress on the rough skin of an ancient elephant.
I took my little dog to the beach at sunset. There is a lot of driftwood on the beach. It’s very beautiful. The dog, despite her age, is not afraid of anything. She wanted us to explore one of the jettys and got very adventurous climbing big rocks on her little paws.
