Say Horses!

It was a beautiful sunny Easter Sunday so my friend and I decided to spend it on Galveston Island. I felt like it was a good opportunity to celebrate Horse Day once more with yet another of my favorite people.

We did a lot of fun things: walking tour, beach walk, lunch at Hotel Lucine, dessert at Sunflower Bakery. But we took the time to include some Horse-Day-specific items to our itinerary. The League-Kempner House was closed for tours today, but we still stood in front of it. “No wonder Betty went mad,” my friend said. “Alone in this big house.” Then we discussed where the horses would have been. I like to imagine them on the second floor. But there is a third floor too, so if they were really spooked, they could have climbed up there.

We moved on to the historic cemetery on Broadway, which is at this time of year just starting to bloom. It felt very special being there, pelicans flying above, grackles whistling, and the moment holding a peaceful kind of majesty. We sent some good thoughts to all the people buried there. Then we went by the Tremont House hotel, and finally both headed home where our dogs were waiting.

I’d say it was a wonderful Easter and Horse Day! We even saw an actual horse.
