This month we celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the publication of Lola Is Never Drinking Again, a Galveston novel set in the 1980s that contains an unexpected dose of magic! Have you read it yet? This book is beloved by readers on Galveston Island and beyond. It’s my belief that the title first intrigues them, then the story actually hooks them. If you’ve read the book, you know there’s a lot going on. There are even cameos by ghosts and pirates, and one of the central characters is a retired lady of the night. Recently, I received possibly the best compliment on Lola, when the talented audiobook narrator I hired to record the story, a lady who lives in the Northeast and had never considered a trip to Galveston before, actually visited the Island because the story inspired her to do so! I got to meet her too! We had lunch at Gaido’s (a recurring location in the book) and it was a lot of fun!
You too can experience Galveston Island through the eyes of Lola by joining me on a witchy little walking tour on the evening of April 17th (the new moon!). We will meet in front of St. Joseph’s Church (2202 Avenue K) at 7pm and walk around for an hour exploring locations that inspired the novel, including the beautiful Hotel Galvez and the former location of the Balinese Room. Tickets for this exclusive experience are now available on my website, but please hurry, as the group taking this tour with me is limited to 10.
I would love for you to be a part of this!
