Sometimes I ask myself What Would Miss Vulpe Do? (Or, alternatively I ask what would my grandma do, as she was certainly the pushy kind; she even had a favorite little refrain she loved to repeat about it). So, Reader, after one night and full morning feeling not quite at ease in my very beautiful hotel room where the only window sadly faced an indoor courtyard, I asked the nice people at the front desk if maybe, just maybe I could move to a room facing the street. I was afraid that such a switch might be impossible for love or money and that the ensuing conversation might be uncomfortable and ruin my experience. But no, the awesome person at the front desk found me a room with my own personal teeny tiny balcony and French doors that open to a lively street view. Free of charge, I might add, which was so generous and kind, it immediately reinforced my belief in the kindness of strangers. I’ve been lying in bed with the window open ever since. Right now, I’m enjoying a brief summer shower, the smell of rain, the sounds of the city below. It’s amazing how being comfortable in my room changed my outlook on life, but it really did. Another reminder that it never hurts to ask, and risking the discomfort of being turned down is worth it in the end.
Also, Madrid is stunningly beautiful and so is the hotel, the tiles on the balcony are super fun, I love my new shoes, and I’m obviously still obsessed with churros.

Looks like churros.
