Summer Will Return

Today I made this painting of a cocktail in a different style from my usual work. It’s 8×10 inches oil stick on paper. What cocktail is it? It could be an Aperol Spritz, a Negroni Sbagliato, or my personal favorite – a simple but delicious Campari soda. Whatever you want it to be, it evokes summer with its happy exuberance. And I think that is quite welcome on such a cold day when it’s about to get even colder. Still, winter will be over soon. It has no choice. Jasmine and azaleas will bloom. Graceful herons will return from warmer places and nest in our lush oak trees. They’ll produce funny-looking yellow-beaked offspring, feed them frogs, and teach them how to fly. The day is already getting longer. Bluebonnets are unfurling their green leaves, piercing through cracks in pavements, and growing lusher in anticipation of blooming soon. Crawfish are here. So are king cakes and all the other exciting things to do with Mardi Gras. It will be Negroni Sbagliato weather in about a month or so.

To manifest that, let’s do a little auction for this sweet little painting. Its retail value is $100, but let’s start the bidding at $30, with bid increments of $5. Please place your bids as comments to this blog post (below). Bidding will conclude at 9pm on Thursday February 20th. By then we will all hopefully have survived the last freeze of the year.

Have fun! Stay warm! Buy art, read books, be happy. 😉
