Today was rainy and cold but I still got to do a lot. The receptionist at my hotel recommended the Bouillon Julien, a beautiful Art Nouveu restaurant which has been serving good but inexpensive meals since 1906. It was, apparently, at some point, Edith Piaf’s favorite. I had a really great lunch there. Then I walked to the Marais, steered clear of shopping, and did a lot of sightseeing instead, including the Museé du Carnavalet and Place des Vosges. My favorite moment, though, occurred when I was cold and tired of walking and I flagged down a cab – a little luxury I treated myself to, and it was so worth it! From the comfortable warm car I enjoyed a final view of some of my favorite places in Paris, including the Louvre. I had a nice conversation with the cab driver too, and when I told him that overall I’ve had great experiences with very friendly people in Paris he said people probably like me because I have a strong American accent when I speak French and apparently Parisians love Americans. I thought that was pretty funny. But I’ll take it!
