Today I had six lovely people come by for a watercolor class. I did a whole bunch of cleaning in anticipation of their visit, and the cleaning really did me good. I don’t know how I decided that we would all paint pigs, but we did, and it was nice. Mine is a mama pig! Seems appropriate for the full Harvest Moon – something round and lucky and full of life.
I’ve been having crazy thoughts about my fictional characters, imagining some pretty weird and damaging stuff for them, and my friend talked me into moving on today, imagining different things for brand new characters. I was able to pick a manuscript back up I had neglected and write 1,000 words that are actually not toxic, so maybe I’m letting go of my destructive ideas? I mean, yes, my job is to invent problems for my characters, but sometimes I go a little overboard…
Meanwhile, my friend sent me a cute picture of her puppy reading Holly’s posthumous poetry. And I was out at the Menil this evening and saw a bride and groom having a photo shoot just as the Harvest Moon was rising in the sky. I feel like such glimmers of magic should be appreciated.
