After a little break, I got back to my manuscript today. The story takes place in the 1980s, a decade I was actually alive in and which I, however vaguely, remember. So one might think this book would be a little easier to write than my other historical novels. But maybe not. The world has changed so much (for the better!) and I am used to those changes. It’s hard to imagine going back in time. Also, since of course this novel takes place on Galveston Island too, the Island was very different then, and my research has so far focused on other decades. So yes, there is a lot of work to do, a lot of discovery and rediscovery ahead. And that is a good thing. I’m waiting for the magic moment when I realize I can think of little else but this new story. It hasn’t arrived yet but I’m hopeful.
