Storm Survivor – 36’’x48’’

Today’s featured painting:
Storm Survivor
by Elena Sandovici
36×48 inches acrylic with collage elements on cradled wood panel
$3,600
Currently available for viewing and purchase in the artist’s studio in Houston. Studio visits by appointment only.
This painting was created specifically in order to serve as the cover art for Sandovici’s best selling novel Storms of Malhado – a story set in Galveston featuring several historical storms and a slight paranormal twist.
The painting incorporates images of several of Sandovici’s works on paper inspired by the novel, which have been collaged by the artist onto one of her signature acrylic renderings of an abstract seascape. This painting is especially suited for someone who enjoyed Storms of Malhado.
8×10 inch ink drawing inspired by my return to Houston after the storm

After a two month absence, I’m back in Houston and it’s so surreal. Is this even a real place? There are literally huge piles of tree branches on the sidewalks, debris gathered up from the storm. The lawns are as unmanicured as I’ve ever seen them. But aside from these visual remnants of the disaster, life carries on. We go to parties and lovely restaurants. We dress up. We eat and drink and laugh. We walk our dogs around the huge piles of debris and pretend not to notice the smell.

I haven’t seen the herons. I hope they’re ok after the storm. Have they left us? Huge fat frogs jump around at night. Cicadas buzz with gusto. Where are my beautiful herons? Someone help!

Me, I’m jet lagged but restless. I want to paint and write and take the world by storm (metaphorically speaking). I want to shake things up. I want to change everything yet have to remind myself to only move slowly, to give things time, to rest (quelle horreur!), to adjust (blah!), to not be rash (why?), to ease into things (how?). So, here come the small hopefully meaningful changes which I will (maybe) stick to. I decided to feature one of my larger paintings on the blog each day (see above) so when people go to my website they see a gallery of sorts. What do y’all think? Also, please invite me to more parties among the rubble. I thrive on the surreal nature of it all.

Happily reunited with Bobby and Nancy. And yes, my own personal dog is thrilled to have me back as well.
