Dream Big

I love making big paintings, but it’s so easy to talk oneself out of that kind of endeavor. It’s messy, it requires space, it’s inconvenient and all kinds of other things. But my back patio is perfect for this kind of thing. And so, today, I had at it. There were some inconveniences, but one has to look past these: I was going to build stretcher bars and stretch the canvas first, but the saw I ordered in order to cut the wood for that hasn’t arrived yet. I also ordered the wrong kind of canvas. I meant for it to be wider. And the humidity was through the roof, so the whole thing got very wet before I could drag it inside. But still. There are so many reasons not to do something one actually wants to do, needs to do. Sometimes you just have to look past them and get the thing done.

Also, I stopped by the Then & Now Bookshop on Postoffice because while walking with my friend and her kid yesterday I noticed they were completely out of my books. They really sell in there! I brought some more copies of Storms of Malhado, some cute bookmarks too, and the owner invited me to have a book signing there during the next ArtWalk, which is January 11th. I’m so excited! My books are really starting to be popular with people who love Galveston – especially Storms of Malhado.
