This morning it rained. I worked on another collage while waiting for someone to come pick up one of the heart paintings. Then the dog and I drove down to Galveston. We found the cottage in perfect condition after our first guest stayed there this past weekend. She left it very clean and lovely and she did something I never considered doing: She pulled all the window shades down. I ended up really liking this and decided to leave them this way.
Another collector turned friend stopped by to pick up one of the heart paintings, and also a book. Then my friend and I took a long walk downtown where everything is lit up for Mardi Gras and actually looks quite festive. We stopped by a bar with live music to see our friend Catherine who just returned from a trip to Greece and Egypt.
It felt like a really good time to be on the Island, and Blackbird Cottage feels like a good place to be too. I’ve had my doubts over the past couple of months about doing the whole short term rental thing, but now that the house is ready and already had its first guest, this all feels really good.
