The day is now one whole hour longer, and there’s been a report of a heron sighting from a very trusted source. I drove back to the Island and enjoyed my extra hour of daylight by taking a very long walk, though it felt chilly out.
This fall I thought I saw a big nest in my tree. I was hoping it might be a heron’s nest and that come spring the beautiful birds would return. But now, after the long windy winter, the nest appears to be gone. Apparently herons are not great nest builders (it’s something I learned in my research on them). So maybe that’s why it fell apart? And maybe they’ll come back and build a new one? Here’s hoping!
