The Open Road

I’ve started painting a series of West-Texas-inspired paintings to display in the gallery for the release of my upcoming novel, Lone Wolf. I’m hoping to have the release party on December 21st, the Winter Solstice, a special time to celebrate light, but the manuscript is still with the editor, and I don’t want to rush her, as she is meticulous and does beautiful work. Meanwhile, while I’m waiting and painting, it’s time to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of my first novel, Dogs with Bagels! I can’t believe it’s been that long since I’ve published that book!

I decided to do various things to celebrate: Of course, I’ll have a little party in my new gallery space. There’ll be champagne and bagels on December 16, 11am-2pm.

But I also decided to have a giveaway! I will be giving away a beautiful hardcover copy of one of my all-time favorite novels: Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee. This is the story of Casey Han, a fresh Princeton graduate and daughter of Korean immigrant parents, who struggles to support herself and to follow her passion for millinery in New York City. Much like Liliana in Dogs with Bagels, Casey has expensive tastes, and a complicated relationship with her family. Chances are, if you liked Dogs with Bagels, you’ll love this book as much as I did. You can enter the giveaway here. I hope you win! Fingers crossed!

Though it has, at first glance, nothing to do with the giveaway, the painting of the open road, above, suits my mood for the day. I guess throughout the day, as I was trying to understand how to best make the giveaway work, and planning my party, I felt at times lost and at times very free. Which, I suppose, is good. I guess at this point in my business venture, if I don’t feel like I’m getting in over my head, I’m not doing enough, right?
