Putting Things in Perspective

This morning I went to the beach bright and early. The grackles were especially feisty and I was happy to see them. I swam and got good and salty before going to Maceo’s for lunch. I told Ronnie about my show. The opening is tomorrow and I’m both excited and nervous but being here on the Island helps put things in perspective. Here nature is more present – birds, flowers, the breeze, a fine coating of salt on just about everything. Here I got to swim, eat, take a long nap with my little dog, and got an hour’s worth of writing done before setting out on an extra long beach walk with my friend. I wrote outside on the terrace. A pelican flew over me. A grackle whistled from the nearby crepe myrtle. It’s good to remember that these are the truly important things.
