There’s a certain kind of weather that one can enjoy on Galveston Island this time of year, when it’s neither hot nor cold and the air is the right amount of humid and salty, that makes me feel very relaxed, sort of like I’m floating, like everything is right with the world, and nothing bad can happen. Let it be noted, that under normal circumstances I find it hard to relax, and that I don’t experience that easy feeling all that often. When I do, it’s often on the Island, with weather just like today.
Lots of good things happened today, too. There’s a new bookstore on Galveston Island – the Then & Now Bookshop. It’s right on Postoffice Street, and it happens to carry a lot of my favorite books (books such as The Wedding People, which might be my favorite book I’ve read this year). I’ve really wanted to get my books in there, ever since it opened, and today it finally happened! I was finally able to deliver a box of Storms of Malhado, sign each and every one of them, and watch as the owner displayed them prominently on the shelf of Galveston-themed books she keeps by the door.
Afterwards, my friend and I celebrated with a long loitery walk where I took pictures of birds. And then I went home to my dog to write and wait for the rain, which only came in the evening.
