Vroom! Vroom!

It’s that time of year in Galveston Island where this sweet and usually mellow samdbank gets taken over by motorcycles revving their engines at all hours and everything vibrates a little. Indeed, the Lone Star Rally has arrived! It’s customary to complain about the noise, but there are many reasons to love the bikers who come here en masse for a very loud long weekend each November. Generally they provide a boost to the local economy, and it’s important to remember, as a neighbor pointed out to me today, that after Hurricane Ike they showed massive support. Other organizations canceled their events because of the devastation, but the bikers still held theirs and raised money to help rebuild Galveston. So, they are our very noisy friends and supporters, and they do actually bring very good energy with them. Also, the bikes are quite a sight to behold!
