Finally, some reviews are coming in! Some readers are loving Breakaway Bridesmaid, some are finding the different POVs to be an obstacle to bonding with the characters. I like that opinions are divided, as different people simply like different things.
I tend to love stories with multiple POVs, but not all of them. There are many Elin Hilderbrand novels, for example, where the multiple POVs are definitely a big part of the appeal for me. But in some other I find this tiresome. For example, I really wanted to love The Last Karankawas, which is about Galveston, but I just couldn’t get into it because the perspective kept on shifting and there were just too many. I think for me, one thing that needs to happen with multiple POVs is that each one needs to return to telling the story periodically so I don’t get too disconnected from them.
In Breakaway Bridesmaid, I thought it was fun to tell the story from the perspective of each woman in the wedding party, or rather the five left behind after one bridesmaid disappears. I like their individual voices and I think getting into each of their heads is part of the charm of the story, but obviously this will hit different for different people.
I also like postmodernism and white as the color of the year, so what can you expect?
Also, please read the book and post more reviews. She needs a lot more!
